German Shepherd Dog

Club of Edmonton

THE GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG CLUB OF EDMONTON (GSDCE) IS A COMPETITIVE DOG SPORT CLUB DEDICATED TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION OF QUALITY WORKING DOGS OF ALL WORKING BREEDS.

Established in 1968, the GSDCE is one of the founding clubs of our parent organization, the German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada (GSSCC) and a member of the WUSV (World Union of German Shepherd Dogs).  Our  club goals and policies are guided by these organizations.

Our members actively train and compete at Local, Regional and National Championship level trials with a variety of working dog breeds including the German Shepherd Dog, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Malinois and others.

We work actively to uphold and support the standards of the German Shepherd Dog as approved by the WUSV and encourage our members to follow the international standards laid out for all working breeds.

THE MEMBERS O
F THE GSDCE BELIEVE THAT THE REQUIRED TRAITS OF THE WORKING DOG INCLUDE:

  1. Courage, hardness and the will to handle adversity in a variety of forms

  2. Persistence and determination to overcome obstacles and hardships

  3. A balanced dog that is versatile and sure of character

  4. Structural soundness, effective movement, fitness and strength

THE PROCESS FOR SELECTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF TOP WORKING DOGS:

1. Training

2. Testing

3. Certification

4. Entry Into The Breeding Program

WE BELIEVE THAT AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO SELECT THE KIND OF TEMPERAMENT AND STRUCTURE WE VALUE IS TO TEST THE DOGS IN THE SPORT OF SCHUTZHUND.
